GEARE Student Timeline

To the right, you can see a sample timeline. Many GEARE students choose to study abroad in the spring of junior year because that is typically when engineering students have the most flexibility with their schedules. This timeline assumes that you will be doing the same.

However, many students choose to study abroad during a different semester for a variety of reasons. Some majors recommend that you study abroad during a fall semester. Maybe a co-op rotation changes your plan of study a little bit. Maybe the country you're going to has an academic calendar that's structured differently, or maybe you want to spend a full year abroad instead of just one semester! The GEARE program is great because of it's flexibility. The GEARE staff in the Office of Professional Practice and your academic advisor are great at helping you figure out what you can change from a typical student's timeline in order to meet all your goals. Take a look at this timeline and the information on the program requirements page, but know that there are options to make it your own!
